A beautiful example of a law of UX in action
Elon Musk, Edward Snowden, and Jack Dorsey have endorsed Signal Messenger, and more and more people have started to adopt the new chat app. The messenger is community backed, endorsed by tech giants, and scores a 💯 / 💯 on privacy — these are all reasons for its growth.
There’s one more hidden reason for their tremendous growth: Similar UI and UX design of Signal and WhatsApp.
By keeping the design of Signal and WhatsApp very similar, the app helps to preserve existing mental models and habits of users, resulting in easy transition between the apps.
It’s called the Jakob’s Law of UX. People expect your product to operate like other products that they already use.
What do you think? Will you switch to Signal (or other alternates)?
